Brussels (Belgium), 15 December 2015 - Euronext Brussels has invited Alain Wirtz and Pierre Lambert, CEO and CFO (respectively) of Zetes, to sound the opening bell on Tuesday 15 December 2015 to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the company's stock market flotation.
Zetes, founded in 1984, was a pioneer in the introduction of bar codes. Its first customers included companies such as Colruyt and La Poste. Over the years, the company has strengthened its technological portfolio and extended its services to many sectors of the economy, such as mass distribution and logistics.
The first geographical expansion took place in 1992 in France, quickly followed by expansion into other countries through acquisitions. That is how Zetes gained access to new markets.
Until that point, Zetes focused mainly on the identification of goods, but a new chapter of its story opened in the early 2000s, when it made its first investments in people identification. In 2003 it won the contract for personalisation of the electronic ID card, a flagship project of the Belgian government to bring Belgium into the digital era.
The IPO took place in November 2005 to raise funds to finance the future growth of Zetes.
Alain Wirtz says: " Certainly, this past decade on the Euronext market has not been all plain-sailing. However, at a time when several companies are choosing to leave the stock markets, we are still convinced that our approach has been one of the key driving forces behind ZETES’ development.”
The capital raised has really ensured our growth and our development. But, the benefits of going public have far
outweighed the simple notion of being “listed”. A national and international reputation, entry into Europe, the Middle-East and Africa, credibility with private and public clients, positioning relative to the competition and appeal when it comes to recruiting talent are just some of the collateral benefits ZETES has relied on for the last 10 years.
Alain Wirtz: "Our ability to reinvent our business models and seize new opportunities demonstrates our capacity to adapt and diversify. Despite everything, we remain humble and vigilant. Our future still remains to be imagined and built." .
Zetes now employs more than 1100 people in 19 countries, and is an internationally-recognised identification specialist. Targeting the private sector on the one hand, with its solutions dedicated to the traceability of goods throughout the supply chain, and the public sector on the other hand, with its citizen identification solutions, Zetes aims to be a stable and trustworthy ally in long-term partnerships.
